Doug Hawley lives with editor Sharon and cat Kitzhaber. He started life in Oregon USA and ended up there after time in Manhattan (Kansas) for his last year in graduate school attaining a Ph.D. in math from the University of Oregon, Atlanta Georgia where he taught, Louisville Kentucky, Denver Colorado, and Los Angeles California where he was employed as an actuary. At forty in the San Francisco Bay Area, he left employment to be a self-employed actuary and house husband.
After early retirement back to Oregon, he has continued volunteering as a park steward, wheelchair jockey at a hospital, and a bookstore. In addition to hiking and snowshoeing, he started writing. His five hundred or so publications are listed in his website and blog.
